The Book B*tch Society

You know that feeling when you finish a book and all you can do is close the cover, lay back in your bed, and squeal? You want to text your friends and share all of the quotes that made you giddy, the lines that tore your heart up, the events that made you question your preconceived ideas, and the characters that feel so real that you get a little bit mad you never got an invite to their wedding? What the f*ck, ____(book couple) I thought we were friends! But then you remember….record scratch…oh sh*t, I don’t have any bloody friends…or even worse your friends don’t read the same books!

Well, we’re here for you. The Book B*tch Society: the Non-Bookclub started because four friends from all over North America wanted to cry together, debate with each other, and just sit back and talk about all the books and all the feels. We hate the commitment of a book club… we’re all mood readers and TBR’s, although great hypothetical ideas , can sometimes be daunting. One day we want to read a death trope book about first love and another day we want a spicy chili pepper book about forced mafia marriage. We’ll talk about it all! We want you to be a part of this journey with us, plug your earphones in or turn your Bluetooth on and listen to us spend 30-50 minutes talking about all the ways in which a couple words on a few pages have affected our thoughts, altered our minds, and changed our lives. As Regina George would say: get in loser, we’re going on an adventure.

Hi friends! I’m Shae or you can call me Reid, whatever floats your boat. As a kid my two most prized possessions were the Lemony Snicket series and a battered copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but as I got older reading became more of a chore with school and I lost my desire to escape into the world of fiction. My love of reading rekindled itself through booktok last year and has now taken over my life. Being a reader has become my one and only personality trait, not that I’m complaining! When my books are closed you can find me drawing, re-watching my favourite show fringe for the millionth time, or playing with my 5 year old pug Dinah! If you caught the Alice in Wonderland reference you have immaculate taste and have now earned yourself the title of one of my favourite people! I try to read a little bit of everything but chances are if it’s a sad book meant to make me cry, happy ending not necessary, then I’ll pick it up no questions asked. I’ll try to refrain from recommending too many sad books in a row, but no guarantees (sorry Alondra)!

Heyyy!
I'm Amal, and I've honestly never been that into reading, however that all changed last year. Through friends and of course Booktok I picked up one last September and 70 books later I'm surprisingly still enjoying myself.

I love watching documentaries and most TV shows I can get into, I'm not too picky . The genre that I started with is still the one I'm reading today, Romance. I live in a pretty cold climate so in the Summer and Fall I love going on hikes and taking as many pictures my camera will let me. I'm so excited to start this podcast, and talk all about books. We sometimes are funny, so why hide that from everyone 🙂

I’m Alondra and I don’t know how to write…which is why I read, so ignore the next three to four run on sentences, it’s my yearly exercise. I was an avid little reader as a tween. I loved anything and everything fantasy from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games and the Mortal Instruments, plus throw in anything vampire because you couldn’t be a tween in 2008 and NOT read the Vampire Academy and Vampire Diaries, if you know you know. I then went to high school and uni and reading became a chore rather than a hobby. Fast forward a few years and a few heartbreaks and here I am at 24 rekindling my old love for stories on pages (who doesn’t love a second chance romance). I now almost exclusively read romance with some fantasy and thrillers sprinkled in there. My favorite reads since rediscovering books are Reminders of Him and the Kiss Quotient trilogy. (*Break for screaming* THE HEART PRINCIPLE BROKE MY HEART AND REPAIRED IT — Stop scrolling and go read the book right now!! Don’t tell everyone else I sent away a potential listener though…it’ll be our secret.) My favorite authors are Taylor Jenkins Reid, Colleen Hoover, and Helen Hoang. I'm Virginia, I'm rediscovering my love of reading through my friends and doing this podcast. I used to be an avid reader in my youth but it got lost when work and classes took over.

I'm a cat mom, love all pets. I love movies and TV. I'm trying to diversify my reading but right now I mostly read fantasy, and romance.
